Hays trustees seek District 2 candidates

The Hays CISD Board of Trustees recently set the application process for individuals seeking to fill in as the District 2 trustee for six months before a May 2010 special election to replace District 2 Trustee Joe Muñoz, who resigned at the September meeting.

The board will interview applicants and vote on an appointment on Dec. 7. The new trustee will be sworn in at the Dec. 15 meeting.

Munoz resigned so he could move to another part of the school district. Shortly after he resigned, a controversy arose about a home he is renting from the school district on an interim basis, with a trustee complaining that the school district made improvements to the home at its expense after Munoz moved in.

Interested applicants for the position are asked to send a letter of intent plus a statement of residency to Hays CISD Elections Administrator, 21003 Interstate-35, Kyle, 78640. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on Nov. 20. Letters of intent should include the applicant’s phone number and/or email address.

District 2 includes the following subdivisions: Saddlebrook, High Meadows, Woodlands, Waterleaf, Avery Park, Sunset Ridge, Post Oak, Four Seasons, Steeplechase, Uhland, Bunton Creek Village, The Railyard and Rolling Hills. Portions of The Trails and Green Pastures also are included in District 2. A map is available for viewing on the district website,, or at the Central Administration Office.

The statement of residency, the form traditionally used as an application for a place on the ballot, may be downloaded from the district’s website or requested through the district’s elections administrator. For further information, call (512) 268-2141, ext. 6090.
