Increasing its unbeaten streak to ten games, the Texas State soccer team clinched at least a tie for the Southland Conference championship with a 4-0 win against Sam Houston State Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The Bobcats scored three times in the second half to win going away. Britney Curry scored her 16th goal of the season in the 59th minute to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead, then Taylor Person and Serena Hines netted goals to close out the day. Andrea Grifo scored the first Texas State goal in the first half.
Texas State goaltender Mandi Mawyer stopped both Sam Houston shots on goal. The Bobcats ended the game with a 12-4 advantage in total shots taken.
Texas State is 12-5-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the league. Sam Houston State fell to 7-8-2 and 4-3. The shutout victory was the Bobcats’ tenth this year.
Last Friday, the Bobcats won at home, 1-0, against Stephen F. Austin in overtime. Mawyer recorded nine saves. Hines scored the game winner for Texas State in overtime
The Bobcats will close out their regular season Friday night (7 p.m.) at home against Texas-San Antonio. The Southland Conference Tournament will take place the following weekend at Northwestern State.
