A free public screening of the award-winning documentary Breaking the Maya Code will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in room 157 of Centennial Hall at Texas State University.
The movie, on the decipherment of the ancient Maya script, is sponsored by the Center for the Arts and Symbolism of Ancient America in the Department of Anthropology.
This version of the movie runs nearly twice as long as the version aired earlier on PBS television, and is being shown in conjunction with a workshop on deciphering Maya hieroglyphics, to be held Oct. 10-11.
