CTMC schedules blood drive

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) will conduct a blood drive on Sept. 30 on the first floor of CTMC, 1301 Wonder World Drive, in the main classroom. Donation hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

CTMC sponsors five blood drives a year in conjunction with the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas. Blood drives provide an essential element in caring for the community.

In order to maintain a blood supply that can serve the region, 55,000 units of blood must be donated quarterly in order to provide for the 150,00 Central Texas area patients. An individual donation could save the lives of two patients.

“People don’t realize the impact one donation can make,” said Lisa Moore, CTMC Blood Bank supervisor.”Not only is blood important for trauma patients, blood transfusions are sometimes used to treat illnesses.”
