Texas State EOF hopes to aid HUBs

In their continuing efforts to reach Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs), Texas State will host a vendor outreach and economic opportunity on Sept. 23 from 1-5 p.m. at the City of San Marcos Conference Center.

The vendor outreach coincides with the fall 2009 National Association of Educational Procurement Conference for the region encompassing Texas-Oklahoma-Arkansas-Louisiana.

The forum is part of the effort that Texas State is making to increase the number of businesses done with minority or women-owned businesses that have been certified by the state as meeting the requirements to be recognized as a HUB. The event is one of the ways that Texas State can demonstrate that it is following the Texas guidelines set for state-funded institutions regarding HUBs.

An Economic Opportunity Forum (EOF) is a “reverse” vendor show where HUB coordinators and other procurement personnel staff booths enabling vendors to come by and discuss business opportunities. Additionally, it offers educational sessions for HUB vendors on topics which include the state’s mentoring-protege program, financial resources, and how to do business with State of Texas agencies and universities.

The forum hopes to reach potential and certified HUB vendors from the surrounding counties between Austin and San Antonio. Various state agencies and other governmental entities are expected to send their personnel as part of the good faith effort required to accommodate HUBs.
