On Aug. 16, runners from across the state competed in the Darnd’st Duathlon, a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event in San Marcos.
In recent years, the run has benefitted Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) by raising awareness and funds. The day included a 5K-run, a 30-K bike ride and another 5-K run out and back from Tanger Outlet Center. The race was the Texas State Duathlon Championship for 2009.
The event was sponsored by RunFAR, which donated around $4,000 from the event to CASA. The race was planned by Raul Najera of RunFAR, Michelle Carswell of the Tanger Outlet Center and CASA’s volunteer race director, Moe Johnson.
Volunteers who helped with the event included Gary Job Corps students, HD Supply A Community Team members, Retired Teachers of Canyon Lake, students from Texas Hill Country School, Banana Republic and GAP employees, Girl Scout Troup 1761, Diane Briones and Maureen Martinez of San Marcos. CASA volunteers and board members contributed time and effort, as well.
