Second Act Troupe premiers play

The Second Act Troupe will present the world premier of Dorey Schmidt’s one-act comedy, “Ashes To Roses,” on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. The  premier will be held at the Price Senior Center at 222 West San Antonio Street. George Kaufman’s “The Still Alarm” and Jean McConnell’s “Cruise Missile” are also featured.

Playwright Dorey Schmidt is a retired professor of Creative Writing from the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. She wrote the historical musical “Star of the Hills” for the EmilyAnn Theatre, debuting in 2003. She is currently establishing the Soup’s On Troupe, a group similar in structure to Second Act Troupe, in Lubbock.

The Second Act Troupe is a group of seasoned actors who participate in live theater using their life experiences to inform their work. All members of the troupe are required to be at least 55 years old.

The Price Center event is available with or without dinner before the performance. Dinner with the play is $22. It starts at 6:45 p.m. and requires reservations. Performance only tickets are $12.
