When Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) broke ground on its $35 million expansion project, physicians, employees, volunteers and local dignitaries created a time capsule in honor of CTMC’s 25 years at its location on Wonder World Drive.
Recently, the capsule, which contains personal messages and memorabilia, was placed in a space near the interior wall of the expansion’s new elevator bay. It will remain there until Sept. 4, 2033, when CTMC will celebrate its golden anniversary.
“We are delighted to be able to provide the community with these much needed services through the new construction of our Women’s Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” said Gary Jepson, CTMC President and CEO. “It is our goal to keep pace with the growth of Central Texas as we continue to extend the healing ministry of Christ.”
The 64,000-square-foot expansion project includes a new childbirth center, a Level II Neonatal Critical Care Unit, a new cardiac telemetry inpatient nursing unit and an expansion and renovation of the facility’s surgical suites. When completed, CTMC will grow to a 139-bed facility with all private rooms.
The project, scheduled to open in November, is within budget. Additionally, the emergency department parking lot is being worked on to create more ADA compliant handicap parking. For more information on the expansion, contact Fred Jackson at (512) 753-3607, or visit CTMC’s website.
