TX State boasts tough golf sked

About the Texas State women’s golf schedule for 2009-2010, head coach Mike Akers said this: “I would speculate this is the most difficult competition schedule any athletic team at Texas State has ever put together.”

Not only will the Bobcats tee up against 11 teams from the Big 12, but they also will play against teams from the Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pac-10, the Mountain West and the Western Athletic Conference.

The most intriguing event on the fall schedule will be the Challenge at Onion Creek, for which Texas State will be the host. Among the participants are Texas, Missouri, Baylor, Iowa State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Washington State, San Francisco, Augusta State, Boise State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Texas-San Antonio and Kennesaw State.

The spring schedule will begin with the Nevada-Las Vegas Invitational March 8-10. On March 14-15, the Bobcats will try to defend their championship at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate in Victoria.

“I feel we have the talent on our team to compete at this level,” Akers said. “We will have four returning upperclassmen that bring a wealth of experience back. We also have some extremely talented underclassmen. I am very excited.”

The Southland Conference Tournament will take place April 19-21 in Huntsville. The Bobcats finished fourth in that tournament in 2009.
