Hoping to turn around last year’s 2-8 performance, the San Marcos High School football team will start the 2009 varsity football season on Aug. 28 at Waco University.
The new football schedule will once again feature the Rattlers within brutal District 27-4A, where they finished 0-7 last season. The Rattlers will play four of their seven district games in their Bobcat Stadium home.
The Rattlers will make their home debut on Sept. 11 against Lampasas. A week before then, the Rattlers will play at Bastrop.
Following an open date on Sept. 18, the Rattlers will start district play at home against Cibolo Steele on Sept. 25. A week later, on Oct. 2, they will go to New Braunfels Canyon.
On Oct. 9, the Bobcats will play Kerrville Tivy at home before they travel to Alamo Heights on Oct. 16. The Rattlers are back at home against Schertz Clemens on Oct. 23, then they go to Boerne on Oct. 30.
The regular season will end with a home game against Seguin.
All games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Leading up to the season, the Rattlers will play two scrimmages. On Aug. 15, they will scrimmage Austin High at House Park (10 a.m.), then they will scrimmage Tyler Lee in Waco at 5 p.m. on Aug. 21.
After nine straight playoff appearances, the Rattlers missed the postseason last year. It was a season of youth, misplays, turnovers and injuries as district opponents outscored the Rattlers by an average score of 42-19.Email | Print
