DRIPPING SPRINGS – The concept of selling produce, plants, flowers, and handcrafted items via farmers market has proven to be a winner in Dripping Springs.
Earlier this month, more than 100 people came out to support the Drippings Springs Farmers Market, hosted by the City of Dripping Springs Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department.
Farmers Market venders sold eggs, fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers to an enthusiastic group of area consumers. Dripping Springs Farmers Market Association Chair and Onion Creek Farms producer Marianne Simmons said each booth experienced lines of people waiting to buy fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables. Before 11:30 a.m., she said, producers were either close to selling out or had completely sold out of all farm products.
“As a producer, I felt the market was a great success,” Simmons said. “Consumers came out in numbers and were very supportive. Everyone was happy that they don’t have to drive to Austin anymore to find a farmers market.”
Simmons said the market can accommodate many more vendors at this location. Responding to consumer demand, Farmers Market patrons will be thrilled to hear that a tomato grower has confirmed to participate in the next event.
As the market is held on the first and third Saturdays of each month, the next event will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Booths are located in the grassy area of the Triangle, at the intersection of U.S. 290 West and RR 12. Free parking has been designated in the graveled section of the property.
Regional vendors and skilled artistic merchants can purchase booth space for $20 per day, after the initial city required annual permit of $30. All items sold in the market are either grown or made by the seller.
