Texas State shot putter Kemuel Morales qualified for the NCAA track and field championships with a third-place finish during the weekend at the Midwest Regional meet, which was hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Texas State’s Ikenna Obonna completed the triple jump with a mark of 14.65 meters (48-00.75) in the finals, while teammate Goldstein Okafor wrapped up the meet with a distance of 14.55 meters (47-09).
Valerie Hancock just missed moving on to the national championships for Texas State, finishing sixth in the women’s high jump with a height of 1.74 meters (5-08.50). Katie Evans and Asiya Iskakova both tied for tenth at 1.70 meters (5-07). Iskakova also competed in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.29 meters (40-04).
Automatic qualification into the national championships goes to the top five finishers from each regional individual event and the top three declared finishers from each regional relay event.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held from June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, AK.
