Texas State prof to present at health conference

Tinker Murray, a Texas State professor of health, physical education and recreation, will make a presentation at the fourth annual Texas Conference on Hispanic Children.

Murray’s presentation, called “Exercise in Hispanic Cildren: Building the Culture,” will focus on preventative strategies and interventions for combating obesity and diabetes in Hispanic and other minority children and adolescents.

“I will specifically discuss research programs in the San Antonio community that we have participated in that can promote a culture of increased levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity in youth,” Murray said.

The conference will be held at the University of North Texas Health Science Center from May 28-29 in Fort Worth. It features nationally recognized speakers, with a specific focus on the disparities in health status between racial and ethnic minorities and the general population. Attention will also be paid to preventative strategies in medicine, policy and community based solutions.
