The City of San Marcos will soon begin reconstruction of the Rio Vista Tennis Courts. However, a Monday night groundbreaking ceremony was cancelled due to the day’s heavy rains.
The courts were originally constructed in 1974 through a grant from the H.E.B. Tennis Foundation.
Recently, the San Marcos City Council awarded a construction contract to local business Thomas-N-Thomas, Inc., to rebuild the courts, which are the only public courts in the city, at a cost of $568,126.
The project will consist in demolishing the existing courts at Rio Vista Park, then constructing six tennis courts, concrete walks, irrigation, a sport court, lightning, shade canopies, drinking fountains, benches, a bicycle rack and perimeter fences.
Construction is expected to be completed within six months.
