Economic conference to be on Internet in high def

The 2009 Economic Outlook Luncheon: Riding the Storm Out, is expecting more than 300 people on April 23, but those who can’t make it will also be able to keep up on their computers.

San Marcos Media Professions (SMMP) will broadcast the event on the internet, live, in high definition.

“The effort to provide a live feed is twofold,” said Economic Development San Marcos Executive Director Amy Madison. “With the present economy, it might be tough to find $35 to attend the luncheon. This way, virtually anyone can attend. The added bonus is we are able to showcase our local companies and promote our own, and that’s as good as it gets.”

Said SMMP coordinator and local photographer Andy Heatwole, “Austin may be the Music City, but San Marcos is the Media City. Our main goal is to transform San Marcos into a powerful media production center that will provide local businesses and individuals with top-notch service and recruit new business from all over Central Texas.

SMMP members assisting with the event include Heatwole Photographic Service, Media Design, XI Media and Aberdeen Studios. Kulabyte, a three-year-old local company, is providing the equipment and video encoding services.

Reserve seating is still available for the event, and a limited number of seats are available for purchase at the door. The event is being held at the San Marcos Convention Center. Speaking at the event will be Dr. Keith Phillips of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, along with economic professors from Texas State.  For more information, call the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce (SMACC) at (512) 393-5900.

  1. To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to thank Amy Madison, Director of the San Marcos Economic Development Council, for inviting the San Marcos Media Professionals to cover this timely and informative event.

It was a great success from our point of view, not only because of the excellent speakers that were invited, and the relevant topics that they covered, but also due to the fact that the event represented a positive test confirmation for Media Design, of our on-location, Kulabyte LIVE HD streaming system, which is a technological first for us and in general, here in San Marcos.

We have received some early feedback concerning the technical aspects of this LIVE HD streamed event, noting that a number of viewers around the State of Texas, were definitely able to join and follow the program from their respective locations, from both inside and outside the local San Marcos area.

We have archived (saved) a copy of the program, and hope to post it on a separate link, to be viewable for the public, here in the near future. The link above takes the user to our live netcast link, which was activated during the actual time period of the conference, for the live stream. The entire program was netcast LIVE in streaming HD for those persons who were not able to attend in person.

Thanks also to Mayor Susan Narvaiz for her suggestion at the outset, that this streaming effort would be of present and future benefit to the citizens San Marcos, and the greater Central Texas community as a whole.
