Mark your calendars to attend the free 3rd annual Aquarena Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25. We will have two booths there, one for Sustainable San Marcos and one for Edible San Marcos, and there will be a lot of other information booths and activities throughout the day, fun for all ages! There are two upcoming local opportunities to recycle special items. Household Hazardous Waste is on April 18, and Electronic Waste on April 25.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant has been funded and, looking at the Federal website, we see the City of San Marcos has been allocated $498,100, and that is just for the 1st year. The purpose of this program is to assist communities in implementing energy efficiency and conservation strategies. Stop by our booth at Aquarena Earth Day to discuss some ideas, and let us know if you’d like to participate in a separate online discussion group exclusively focused on this topic.
Check out the great things happening at the Edible San Marcos team. You sign up for “The Sprout” (our monthly newsletter), or attend some of the team events. Be sure to stop by the booth at Aquarena Earth Day. There will be giveaways and helpful information on gardening and local eating in the community.
For a free soft copy of “Wake Up and Smell the Planet” go here and sign up during their special April 9th to April 23 promotion.
It’s that time of year for “Pack It Up and Pass It On,” the end-of-the-year recycling program that allows Texas State students to donate unwanted items to local needy families. Last year, 1,000 San Marcos residents benefited from this program. Go to the website for more information, and volunteers are always welcome.
Residential single stream recycling is operational now. If you want to see the program expanded to multi-family and commercial, Sustainable San Marcos recommends talking to city leaders.Email | Print
