STAFF REPORT
Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway is reminding voters that there are no statewide constitutional amendments on the May 9 ballot concerning homestead exemptions.
This statement was released because Caraway’s office has been inundated with phone calls about a email that had been circulating abut a possible change in the homestead exemption.
“There was an amendment vote in 2007,” Caraway said. “But, an out of date email is circulating again, telling voters – especially seniors – that the homestead exemption could change.”
Continued Caraway, “That homestead exemption amendment was passed in 2007, and has been applied to the proper tax accounts. Our office has been getting a lot of panic calls and emails from individuals who are concerned that there is another homestead exemption on the ballot, and there isn’t – it’s a done deal.”
Hays County does encourage all residents to vote in the upcoming May 9 election.
