Back in action after more than a week off, the Texas State softball team resumed its season in style Tuesday night with a 2-0 win at Baylor.
Jenna Emery homered to right center with one out in the seventh inning, giving the Bobcats their first hit of the game and a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats added an insurance run when Chandler Hall followed the homer with a single, then took second on an outfield error and scored with a single by Ali McCormick.
At that point, it was merely up to Hall to finish off another strong pitching performance, which ended at seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.
Baylor threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a double by Bree Hanafin, who advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out. But Hall struck out Meagan Weldon looking and Nicole Wesley flied out to center field to end the game.
The Bobcats improved to 26-12, while earning their fourth straight and their fourth win over a Big 12 opponent this season. Baylor drops to 29-15 this season.
Texas State returns home on Friday for a double header against Texas-San Antonio starting at 5 p.m. The two teams will play again on Saturday at noon to end the Interstate-35 series.Email | Print
