SIFE team prevails again

The Texas State SIFE team.

Texas State’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team returned home after another successful performance last weekend in Dallas, winning the regional competition for the 12th straight year and being named a top 20 finalist in five of the seven content-based topic competitions.

“We were happy to present the results of our projects for the year and were overwhelmed with the judges’ responses,” said Texas State presentation team captain Brittany Fiedler, who led the Bobcats to a “Final Four” appearance in 2008.

Presentation team members included Fiedler, Michael Huddleston, Rian Beaudoin, Lauren Peterson, Ben Campbell, and Brett Georgulis.

President Rian Beaudoin added, “SIFE has taught me a great deal about leadership, motivation and working very hard toward a common goal,” said Beaudoin, Texas State’s SIFE president. ” … our 142-member team helps to spread the message of free enterprise around the world.”

A live 24-minute audio-visual presentation outlining each program’s results determines the winners.

Texas State finished in the top 20 in entrepreneurship, HSBC financial literacy, waste management/environmental sustainability, Campbell’s/sealed air business ethics and GE consumer and industrial program sustainability.

Each league at the regional competition chooses either one or two winners, depending on the number of universities in each league, to attend the national competition. Approximately 150 teams to the national event May 10-13 in Philadelphia. Texas-Tyler also qualified for the national competition in the same league as Texas State.

SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries.  SIFE teams’ projects address a variety of topics, such as market economics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, personal success skills, environmental sustainability and business ethics.
