Bobcats compete in Texas Relays


The Texas State men’s and women’s track and field teams don’t have a lot of high placements to show for their entries at 82ndClyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas during the weekend.

Eric Sheppard placed fourth in the men’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.75 for Texas State. Jonathan Hernandez took sixth in 4:02.83. Heather Bullin competed in the women’s 5,000 meter run, finishing 10th in a time of 17:58.75.

Mary Beth O’Connor had a time of 1:02.15 and Liat Anav had a time of 1:02.53 in the 400 meter hurdles. In the pole vault, Jarrod Buddin took fourth with a height of 4.90 meters, while Dmitri Kabakov placed sixth with the same height.

The relay teams hit the track on day three as the women’s 4×100 meter relay team of Morgan Canty, Maria Gustafsson, Renee Sheppard and Iris Darrington ran a time of 47.03. The men’s team of Aaron Jones, Stefon Hargrove, Brandon Thomas and Kevin Aje finished 14th in a time of 41.22.

In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, Valerie Hancock had a time of 15.08 and Cailey Olson had a time of 15.73. In the men’s 110 hurdles, Clay Holland crossed the line in a time of 14.86.

Darrington had a time of 12.12 in the women’s 100 meters and Gustafsson recorded a time of 12.34. Hargrove had a time of 10.76 in the men’s 100, while Aje finished in 10.81.

Kelli Van Vleet took 13th in the javelien as she had a mark of 37.96 meters to finish the event.

Valerie Hancock took seventh in section A of the high jump with a height of 1.75m. In section B of the women’s high jump, Asiya Iskakova had a height of 1.70m for third place, while Katie Evans took fifth with the same height. Iskakova also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.63m.

In the women’s pole vault, Jennifer Matthews placed fifth with a height of 3.70m.

Kemuel Morales had a mark of 18.14m (59-06.25) to place second in the men’s university shot put section A to claim the highest finish by any Bobcat at the relays.
