Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has hired Omar Baca as a hospital wide patient advocate.

Baca, who is bilingual, will work to ensure patient understanding of procedures, providing support for both patients and families.

“I spent nearly a decade in the fire service, where I discovered a deep, personal satisfaction from helping others,” Baca said. “I understand that every person is unique. I believe that along with state-of-the-art, we must provide good old fashioned personal attention.”

Baca continued, saying, “In my field experience, I found that being bilingual (English/Spanish) helped open communication with a major portion of our community that otherwise can feel lost or neglected when in need of medical attention.”

Krystal Gomez, CTMC Performance Improvement Manager, was happy to bring Baca on board.

Said Gomez, “Omar (Baca) brings a new enthusiasm, and a unique perspective, to the position.”
