STAFF REPORT
Texas-El Paso (UTEP) pitcher Stacie Townsend gave the Texas State Bobcats more than they could handle Tuesday, tossing a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for a 2-0 win at Bobcat Field.
For the first four innings, the Bobcats could manage only a third-inning bunt single by Katherine Tello. Texas State also knocked out isolated hits in the fifth and sixth innings.
UTEP scored the game’s only runs on a two-run homer in the third inning by Jennifer Davis. Texas State pitcher Chandler Hall, who otherwise held UTEP in check, took the loss, dropping to 14-6. Hall struck out seven and allowed only four hits in her route-going performance.
Texas State fell to 22-12, while UTEP improved to 16-16.
The Bobcats will stay out of the Southland Conference this weekend, when they travel to New Mexico for single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
