Debate scheduled for Texas State ASG candidates

Candidates for Texas State student body president and vice president will have the chance to make their views known to their fellow students, and the citizens of San Marcos, at an Associated Student Government (ASG) debate on Wednesday.

The debate, organized by The University Star, will take place from 5-7 p.m. in Flowers Hall, room 341. Presidential candidates Christopher Covo, Trenton Thomas and Brice Loving will face off, along with vice presidential candidates Tommy Luna and Edwin Maldonado.

Covo and Luna are running on the same ticket, as are Thomas and Maldonado.

The student body president and vice president oversee the ASG Senate, and they work closely with Texas State’s administration, San Marcos city officials and other student leaders. The election will be held March 31 to April 1.

Questions from San Marcos residents will be welcome, and all questions will be attributed to their authors. Email questions to Star Editor Scott Thomas, and include “ASG Debate Question – Community” in the subject line. Students can also submit questions, but should only put “ASG Debate Question” as the subject.

For more information, contact the Star at (512) 245-3487.

  1. UPDATE: Texas State student body vice presidential candidate Edwin Maldonado has dropped out of the race due to ineligibility.

Barring any write-in candidates, Tommy Luna will be the next student body vice president.
