ARLINGTON — Playing its third Southland Conference road match of the season, the Texas State women’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against UT Arlington at the UTA Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats opened the match winning two of the three doubles matches as Ashley Ellis and Nyssa Peele defeated Maria Martinez-Romer and Nicola Matovicova 8-5, and Kiki Kruse and Mackenzie Farmer teamed to beat Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Micochova 8-6.
In singles play, Ellis posted Texas State’s only victory in two sets over Daiana Negreanu, 7-5, 6-1 in a number-two singles match.
In the top singles match, Andrea Giraldo fought through a 6-8 tie breaker before falling 2-6, 6-7 against Monika Hadvigerova. In addition, Nyssa Peele fell 2-6, 4-6 versus Klara Jagosova in the number-three singles match, while Chafitz suffered a 3-6, 0-6 loss against Micochova in the number-four match.
Kiki Kruse had her six-match winning streak stopped when she suffered a 6-7 (7-1), 2-6 loss against Maria Martinez-Romer in the number five match. UTA also won the number six match as Mackenzie Farmer fell 1-6, 2-6 against Nicola Matovicova.
The loss drops Texas State’s record to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in Southland Conference play, while UTA improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
