Harrington wins No. 300 in Bobcat victory

Texas State baseball coach Ty Harrington earned his 300th win at the helm of that program Friday night as his Bobcats opened the Southland Conference season with a 7-4 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Bobcats right hander Zach Tritz allowed just one run on nine hits in eight innings, raising his record to 2-0. Tyler Brundridge threw the final one-third of an inning for his first save of the year.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead they would never lose in the first inning, when Tyler Sibley reached on an error, took second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a ground out and crossed on a two-out single by Keith Prestridge. Another two Texas State runs scored in the second when Lance Loftin doubled, Ben Theriot singled him in, then Theriot took second on a wild pitch and third on Laurn Randell’s single before crossing when Adam Witek hit into a double play.

Sibley scored again in the third to make it 4-0 by singling and crossing on a double by Paul Goldschmidt. A two-run homer by Prestridge moved the Bobcats up to a 6-0 lead in the fifth.

Sibley, Prestridge and Theriot each notched two hits for Texas State, which totaled 10 hits for the game. Prestridge drove in three runs.

The Bobcats and Corpus will pick up their series Saturday with a 2 p.m. start at Whataburger Field.

Texas State now is 4-2 this overall and 1-0 in the SLC. Corpus is 1-4 and 0-1.
