City seeks volunteers for Veterans Affairs committee


The San Marcos city council is seeking military veterans or their spouses from San Marcos and Hays County to serve on a new San Marcos Veterans Affairs Committee.

The committee was established by ordinance at the February 17 City Council meeting. Appointments are expected to be made to the seven-member committee at the city council’s regular meeting on March 31. Volunteers are asked to submit a volunteer interest form by Monday, March 23

“The Veterans Affairs Committee will serve in an advisory capacity to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board,” said Mayor Susan Narvaiz. “Our goal is to enlist the help of military veterans or their spouses to keep us informed about issues and activities of importance to those who have served our nation and help us honor our veterans.”

The city council will strive to appoint veterans or spouses who represent various war eras and different veterans’ organizations in San Marcos and Hays County.

The tasks of the committee will include:

Veterans or their spouses who live in San Marcos or Hays County are eligible to apply for a place on the committee. Interested residents may apply through the city clerk’s office at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins, San Marco or call (512) 393-8090.

Board volunteer forms are also available on the city Web site at www.sanmarcostx.gov

The committee members will be appointed for staggered, three year terms. Terms will be drawn by lots after the first committee is appointed.
