The speed limit will be lowered on one stretch of Texas 123 and raised on another as per the recommendation of a Texas Department of Transportation traffic analysis prompted by the opening of the new Bowie Elementary at the highway’s intersection with Monterrey Oaks Blvd.

The city council on Tuesday approved ordinances implementing new speed limits which include:

  • Removed the school zone that covered the former Bowie Elementary campus near Broadway Street.
  • Increased the speed limit from 50 mph to 55 mph from DeZavala Drive to Wonder World Drive, Farm-to-Market Road 3407.
  • Decreased the speed limit from 65 mph to 60 mph from Wonder World Drive to south of Monterey Oaks, in front of the new Bowie campus.

The speed limits will take effect when posted.

  1. How is it that Martindale can drop the speed limit halfway to Luling (and ticket the hell out people) when the only thing out there are pastures but they want to stick with a 60 & 55 mph limit around these schools. I say drop it to 45 mph all the way in.
