Police are investigating a two vehicle head-on collision that left a local man dead and three in the hospital.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the wreck transpired southbound on Interstate-35 near mile marker 220 at 12:21 a.m Monday, claiming the life of Jose Alfredo Hernandez, 31, of San Marcos.
Hernandez, driving a 1996 four-door Oldsmobile towards oncoming traffic, crashed into Jeffrey Micael Hill of Overland Park, KS. Hill’s 2007 Jeep Compass was also carrying two passengers who have not yet been identified. All were transported to Brackenridge Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries and are said to be in stable condition.
Hays County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene at 1:40 a.m. The investigation has not yet confirmed whether either driver was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. New developments will be reported as they become available.
