The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are honoring a San Marcos CISD elementary school teacher for her promotion of citizenship.
The VFW is honoring Crockett Elementary third grade teacher Robyn Becak for promoting national citizenship education for grades K-12. She advances to the state level competition for recognition. District 5 covers six counties, including areas of north San Antonio, Sequin, south Austin and western Hays County.
Becak learned this week of her award. She and her husband Wayne are invited to the award ceremony to be held soon in San Antonio. Becak is a 23-year education veteran who believes in modeling community service for her students.
Crockett Principal Rick LaBuhn said he had just completed a walk-through observation of Becak’s classroom and saw her teaching students a lesson on the Pledge of Allegiance. When he returned to his office, he noticed the nomination packet from local VFW Post 3413 and nominated his teacher for the award. Becak provided additional documentation.
The Maurice T. Suttles Post 3413 chose Becak for the local award, submitting her packet for district level competition in the K-5 grade level.
