A 15-year-old boy is being treated at Dell Children’s Hospital after being stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors by a fellow patient at the San Marcos Treatment Center.
Police responding to the treatment center at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday arrested a 16-year-old man on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, San Marcos police Sgt. Dave Waugh said. He said he did not know details of circumstances surrounding the disturbance, including what started it.
Because he is a minor, the victim’s name is not being released and his condition is not available. Waugh characterized the injury as “very serious” but could not say if it is life-threatening.
A manager at the treatment center was not available late this morning and did not immediately return a phone message requesting comment. Formerly the Brown Psychiatric Hospital, the 120-bed center treats adolescents and teenagers ages 10-17 for psychiatric, neuropsychiatric and developmentally delayed disturbances, according to the center’s Web site.
The assailant was treated briefly at Central Texas Medical Center for a superficial injury, Waugh said, and is being held at the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center on the second-degree felony.
