The San Marcos Rattlers finished the football season in disappointing fashion, unable to turn the home field to their advantage in their bid to win a District 27-4A game Friday night.
The Rattlers lost, 27-21 to Seguin, finishing the district season 0-7 and dropping to 2-8 for the season. It’s the worst finish for the Rattlers since they went 1-9 in 1997, the year before Bruce Bush arrived and set them up for nine straight playoff appearances, a streak that ended this year.
Youth, special teams misplays, turnovers, injuries and a very tough district that could produce all four regional playoff finalists brewed up a bad year for the Rattlers, who lost their district games by an average score of 42-19.
Friday night’s game was a battle to escape from the district basement, as Seguin entered at 0-7 in the league and 1-8 overall.
