The Bobcat volleyball team will be hitting the road this weekend for their last away conference matches of the season. First on the stop will be Lamar, where the ladies are set to take the floor Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:00pm CT. The team will then travel to face Sam Houston State the following day to play the Bearkats in Huntsville at 4:00pm CT.Texas State is on track to post its best conference record in five years. The Bobcats currently hold an 11-1 record in conference, with four more matches to go. Two on the road and the last two at home next week versus UTSA and A&M-Corpus Christi.
The team has been led by a terrific group of upperclassmen and a strong senior class. Senior Emily Jones Wilkes leads the team in blocks (73), senior Lawrencia Brown leads the team in digs (271) and senior Amy Weigle leads the team in hitting percentage with .359.
The last time the Bobcats faced the Cardinals it was on Oct. 4 in Strahan Coliseum, where the Bobcats beat the Cardinals 3-1. In that match-up Jessica Weynand had 10 kills and 13 digs for a double-double. Also posting a double-double was Shelbi Irvin with 21 assists and 11 digs. Jones Wilkes finished with 13 kills and only one error.
Two days before that match Texas State had beaten Sam Houston State, 3-1. Jones Wilkes and Weigle both hit .467 with seven kills each; neither one having an error. Weigle had three block assists and Jones Wilkes had four block assists and one block solo. Brown led all players with 12 kills and eight digs.
That performance for the week gave Jones Wilkes her first SLC Offensive Player of the Week nod of the season, as she finished the week with 20 kills and a .633 hitting average.
