Campuses throughout Hays CISD have scheduled Veteran’s Day activities, ranging from Walls of Honor to formal presentations. Community members are invited to all ceremonies and are encouraged to help students celebrate Veteran’s Day. Activities include:
Kyle Elementary School, Nov. 7, 1:40 p.m. in the gym. Program includes presentation of the colors, patriotic songs by the choir, a presentation by guests from the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and introduction of visiting veterans;
Lehman High School, Nov. 11, 3 p.m., in the gym. The program, sponsored by the LHS Navy JROTC and the VFW Buda/Kyle Post 12058, will honor veterans from all branches of the military with the posting of the colors, performances by the LHS Navy JROTC, choir, band, art and theatre arts students;
Dahlstrom Middle School, Nov. 10, 10 a.m. in the gym. Student music and performances;
Fuentes Elementary School, Nov. 10 in the gym. Kindergarten performance;
Elm Grove Elementary School, Nov. 10, 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., in the gym. Kindergarten and 1st Grade students will sing patriotic songs, students will read their winning essays, and a special guest will speak;
Wallace Middle School, Nov. 11, 8:30 a.m., in the gym. Guest speaker, who has served two tours in Iraq, including Q&A with students, roll call of members of the community who have served/are serving their country;
Tobias Elementary School, Wall of Honor that includes names and photos of students’ families who have served their country.
Buda Elementary School, Nov. 10 and 11, 1st Grade students will perform. On Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m., students will perform for parents and the community.
Hays High School, Nov. 11, 8:30 a.m., Marine JROTC students will present a formal flag raising ceremony, while the band plays the National Anthem. A student will read a Veteran’s Day poem followed by another student will read the names of staff veterans with their branch and number of years of service. The HHS band will play a military salute. During the day, members of the HHS community are invited to post letters to and from veterans in their lives, including family currently serving. These letters will remain up all week.
Barton Middle School, Nov. 11, 2:30 p.m. Students will perform patriotic songs and honor veterans.Email | Print
