Texas State golfers ended their fall season Tuesday afternoon with a rally to finish second at the Waterchase Invitational in Fort Worth.
The Bobcats started the day in fourth place with a two-round score of 6-5 (305, 300), then turned up a final round team score of 300 behind Jeff Gerlich’s 71 on the par 72 course to finish with a three-day 905.
Texas-Arlington, the host team, easily won the tournament with a three-round score of 864, led by medalist Michael Van DeVenter and his total of 205 (71, 67, 67). UTA’s Bobby Massa solidified the Mavericks with his strong second-plae showing (70, 70, 68).
The Bobcats rallied Tuesday to pass fourth-place Oklahoma Christian (907) and fifth-place Northwood (908). Oklahoma City finished third at 906.
Gerlish finished fifth in the medal standings to lead the Bobcats. Other Texas State competitors were Carson Gibson (14th place, 219), Corey Roberson (21st, 226), Philip Krebsbach (tied for 44th, 233), and Michael Carnes (tied for 54th, 235).
The Bobcats will begin spring competition in February.
