The San Marcos police department is investigating three residential burglaries which have occurred at night since October 13 in the western part of San Marcos.
Police say that an unknown suspect is entering the homes through unlocked doors during the nighttime and stealing purses, wallets and laptop computers.
All three homes were occupied at the time of the burglaries. Homes on Burleson Street, Ramona Circle and Redbud Court were targeted.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating a similar crime which occurred in Country Estates off of Ranch Road 12 in September.
Police would like to remind residents to take precautions to prevent burglaries:
“This type of nighttime residential burglary is very uncommon,” said Commander Terry Nichols. “We usually see this type of crime occur during the daytime when residents are away at work or school. With the weather getting cooler, many people like to sleep with their doors and windows open. This presents an easy opportunity for criminals to enter homes.”
Police are asking for assistance in identifying and apprehending this suspect. Citizens are encouraged to call the Police Department at 753-2108 or dial 911 if they see suspicious activity.
Residents may also call the Police Department Crime Prevention office at 512-754-2270 for more tips and information on securing their homes.
