A brief history of the Wonder World extension


» Blue Ribbon Bond Committee recommends the Wonder World Drive  Extension Project as high priority.


» San Marcos voters approve $1.5 million bond for right‐of‐way acquisition for Wonder World Drive Extension Project with 74 percent voter approval; General Obligation bonds issued in 1999.


» City of San Marcos begins environmental assessment for design and  property acquisition.


» City of San Marcos issues certificates of obligation for $1.2 million for  design and continued environmental studies.

» City receives state and federal environmental clearances (FONSI) and project is cleared for construction in November 2004.


» The City of San Marcos submits a pass‐through financing application to the Texas Department of Transportation for construction and right‐of‐way reimbursement.

» Congress approves a $10 million appropriation for the project for  right‐of‐way acquisition, continued environmental and archaeological  work, engineering, design and construction.


» Texas Transportation Commission approved pass through financing  agreement.


» Kellogg Brown & Root begin design and engineering of parkway; detailed archaeological studies conducted.

August 19, 2008

» City council awards $26.2 million construction contract to Rodman, LLC with Groundbreaking Celebration held September 2, 2008.

October 21, 2008

» City council declares Rodman non-responsive to award conditions and awards the contract to J.C. Evans construction.


» Construction scheduled to be complete in fall 2010.
