Expecting to avenge a five-set loss to Houston at last month’s Time Warner Invitational in Austin, the Texas State volleyball came up a little short Tuesday night in an extremely tight five-set loss at Houston.
The Bobcats were right in there until a string of errors in the fourth set sent them to a 25-10 loss and evened the match 2-2. Houston then claimed victory with a 15-12 win in the fifth set.
After Houston took the first set, 25-23, Texas State came back to win the next two, 25-23 and 26-24. However, the fourth-set collapse turned the match against the Bobcats, who finished the match with only a .226 hitting percentage.
Lawrencia Brown and Jessica Weynand each recorded double-doubles for the second straight match. Brown finished with 13 kills and 10 digs, while Weynand had 14 kills and 17 digs. Amy Weigle notched 13 kills. Brittany Collins registered 26 assists, while Shelbi Irvin turned in 25 assists.
The loss ends non-conference play for the Bobcats, who now are 13-14 overall. They’ll take their 3-1 league record back into the Southland Conference Saturday for a 2 p.m. match at Texas-Arlington.
