The Gonzales passing combination of Jordan Meredith to Michael Cardoza spooked the Lehman Lobos early Friday night, sending the Lobos to a 25-7 defeat in Gonzales.
Meredith found Cardoza for a seven-yard touchdown in the first quarter, then the two connected again for a 30-yard score in the second to give the Apaches a 14-0 lead.
Meredith completed 11 of 16 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Cardoza caught three passes for 48 yards, while Kedrick Cray caught five balls for 73 yards.
The Lobos did a decent job bottling up Gonzales running back Lance Camacho, keeping him to 89 yards in 28 carries, but the balanced Gonzales offense still produced 321 yards.
Lehman came within 14-7 in the second quarter, when Caleb Frank ran 60 yards for a touchdown. However, the Lehman offense otherwise struggled. R.J. Hardaway managed only 34 yards in 11 carries, while quarterback Chris Duran completed just five of 17 passes for 51 yards.
The Lobos fell to 3-2 with the loss, while Gonzales improved to 2-3. Lehman will take a bye next week, then launch the District 17-4A schedule. The Lobos will seek their first district win in their three-year history on October 10, when they play Manor at Bob Shelton Stadium.
