The Tanger Outlet Center is putting the power of pink to work to fight breast cancer this fall

Tanger’s 25% Pink Cards give outlet shoppers the chance to save money on their purchases while making a difference in the community

San Marcos, Texas , September 5, 2008 …For the 15th year, Tanger Outlet Centers nationwide are asking its shoppers to think pink in the battle against breast cancer. In San Marcos Texas, Tanger shoppers can join in the campaign to save lives by purchasing a 25% Pink Card September 17-October 19, 2008. For a $1 donation each, Tanger shoppers will receive a special Pink Card that will give them a 25% discount at participating outlet stores at Tanger centers across the country. The Pink Cards will be available at the Tanger Customer Service Center and online at Proceeds from sale of the 25% Pink Cards will stay in the community by benefitting Central Texas Medical Center’s new Lymphedema therapy program. CTMC’s Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Institute lymphedema therapy is a service that helps prevent swelling due to the build up of a protein-rich fluid in the tissues the skin. Treatment by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist helps to manage the swelling and prevent tissue damage. The normal treatment duration, depending on the severity, is two to four weeks, five times a week. Patients are taught how to perform self manual lymph drainage and appropriate skin care to reduce the risk for fungal or bacterial infections of the skin and therapeutic exercise to assist manual lymph drainage. CTMC’s Home Health also provides Lymphedema Therapy for home-bound patients. CTMC is the only provider in Hays County.

“Working closely with our retail partners, we will continue the battle to put an end to the terrible disease,” stated Stanley K. It is our goal to fund the research necessary to put an end to breast cancer in our lifetime,” he added.

During 2008, Tanger has also expanded its fund-raising efforts to include the fight, not only breast cancer, but also against lung, colon and prostate cancer. Each time a Tanger shopper purchases the Tanger “Cure Card,” a specially designed gift card, Tanger will donate 10% of the purchase price to fight these cancers. The Tanger Cure Card will be available through December 31, 2008 and can be purchased at Shopper Services and online at

Tanger has a history of making a difference in the communities it serves across the country. Since 1994, Tanger Outlet Centers has contributed in excess of $5.1 million

to help create awareness for the importance of early detection, to support educational programs to improve the quality of life for patients and families and most importantly to help fund research necessary to find a prevention and cure for breast cancer. Money raised by Tanger’s 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in San Marcos is being donated through the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund.
