The San Marcos City Council will consider an ordinance on emergency tonight to extend the declaration of disaster issued last week by Mayor Susan Narvaiz.
The ordinance has been posted on emergency for adoption at tonight’s City Council meeting.
The declaration will enable Mayor Narvaiz to issue orders setting a 10 p.m. curfew and to prohibit firearms at the intermediate shelter for Hurricane Ike evacuees opened today at the old Bowie Elementary School on Highway 123.
The shelter is expected to receive some 250 hurricane victims who may stay for two weeks or longer.
The mayor’s original declaration issued on September 10, 2008 expires Wednesday, September 17.
