Texas State volleyball seeks return to victory

The Texas State volleyball team will try to get back on the winning track this week after a tough outing at the Time Warner Invitational at the University of Texas.

The Bobcats lost all three of their matches late last week in Austin, falling to Texas, Georgia and Houston.

This week, the Bobcats return home to play Prairie View A&M in Strahan Coliseum Wednesday at 7 p.m. Following that match, the Bobcats are off to Malibu, CA, for the Pepperdine Asics Classic. The Bobcats will play Cal State-Northridge Friday at 7 p.m., then California-Santa Barbara Saturday at 3 p.m. and Pepperdine Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Texas State did its best work in Austin against Houston in a five-set loss (19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 15-13). Four Bobcats notched double-doubles as Jessica Weynand finished the match with 18 kills and 15 digs, Lawrencia Brown had 14 kills and 12 digs, Brittany Collins totaled 45 assists and 10 digs and Melinda Cave turned in 16 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Cave also was named to the all-tournament team.

Texas State opened the tournament with a four-set loss against Texas (25-10, 25-12, 17-25, 25-13). The Bobcats then lost to Georgia in three sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-20).

With their three losses in Austin, the Bobcats fell to 8-10 this season. The tournament in Pepperdine will be Texas State’s final effort before launching Southland Conference play on Sept. 26 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
