Gutierrez Leads Purple Rattlers To Win

The Freshman Purple Rattlers fell behind early as Brandon Scott ran for an early 50-yard touchdown and Layton Irwin added the PAT to grab the lead. But then came in C.J. Gutierrez, the Purple Rattlers Quarterback showed great leadership and command as they left Lampasas with their closest win of the season in a 32-23 victory.

Daniel Nieto scores on a 3-yard run to start the comeback and he would also add the 2-point conversion for an 8-7 Rattlers lead with 4:30 left in the first quarter. The first quarter would end with the Rattlers driving deep in Badgers territory.

Ryan Marin hits the middle for a 10-yard touchdown and Jerome Harris adds the 2-point conversion for a 16-7 lead but the Badgers answered quickly. Justin Maldonado added the kick to make the game close at 16-15.

Gutierrez the player of the night for the Rattlers took in a sneak from the 1-yard line for a 22-15 lead with 1:27 left until halftime. Nieto would add the run for a 24-15 lead.

However, The Badgers wanted to make a game of it and Scott would connect with Julian DeLaCruz on a 21-yard scoring pass as time expired and Scott would add the 2-point conversion to close the gap to only one point at the half 24-23.

Rattlers Head Coach James Halapin told his players to shut them down and thats what they did as the Badgers went scoreless in the second half with a stellar defensive performance.

Gutierrez sneaks in again from the 1-yard line and Marin adds the 2-point conversion for a 32-23 lead with 7:05 left in the game and the defense did the rest for the team. The Freshman Purple Rattlers team is now undefeated with a 3-0 mark heading closer to district action.

Purple Rattlers Head Coach James Halatin said postgame, The team did not let them score in the second half, they dug deep, three and o is great but we want district.

Rattlers Quarterback Gutierrez added, The defense and line played great and we drove the ball against the clock for the game.

The freshman purple team is open next week.
