Southside Community Center holds its first Financial Planning Workshop
Southside Community Center is hosting a Financial Planning Workshop on October 1, 2008 at 6:00 pm in the Center’s gymnasium. The workshop is targeting families in disadvantaged areas, and will cover topics like saving, budgeting, and credit cards.
Southside is inviting approximately 50 people from San Marcos who have received assistance from the Center in the last few months. SCC is a non-profit organization based on social concerns. Southside aims to assist impoverished families and individuals in Hays County through its programs like emergency financial assistance, thrift store, homeless shelter, low-income housing for the elderly, and home renovation.
Betty Davis of Frost Bank in Austin will be leading the seminar. She has taught many workshops from small business planning to financial planning for the homeless, in both Austin and San Marcos. A translator will be present for Spanish speaking families.
Southside will provide a free meal for attendees, and free daycare will be available upstairs in the YSB (Youth Service Bureau) area. There will also be a $50 door prize give-away.
