From San Marcos Academy
San Marcos Academy President Dr. John Garrison and his wife, Carol, welcomed students and staff at the annual Fall Reception Aug. 22. The event brought an end to the first week of school at the Academy, which has a current enrollment of 262.
As students returned for the fall semester, they discovered a number of changes and improvements on campus. Middle School students were relocated from the main academic building into another facility, Davidson Hall, allowing more space for high school classes and a needed separation of the younger and older students. The seven-period schedule from last year was also expanded to an eight-period schedule to provide room for additional math and science requirements as well as more elective options.
Among the new Academy facilities are a $500,000 fitness center, scheduled for completion in October; new dormitory storage facilities; and a horseback riding arena. A major upgrade of technology infrastructure and hardware was also completed over the summer, thanks to gifts to the school totaling over $240,000. Also being planned are improvements and lights for the tennis courts, a new outdoor basketball play court, and continued renovation of the dormitories.
San Marcos Academy is a fully accredited college preparatory school committed to educating young men and women within a nurturing community based upon Christian values. The Academy offers a unique co-educational experience for both boarding and day students in the 7th through 12th grades.
