Freshman White Rattlers lose heartbreaker in Waco

The freshman white team played a tough game versus the Waco Lions at Paul Tyson Field. In first quarter action, the White Rattlers had a good 20-yard return by Santiago Soto but the drive stalled but an Aubrey Oswalt 35-yard punt pinned the Lions at their own 30-yard line.Soto would step up again on the next possession to get a fumble recovery at the 4:08 mark of the opening stanza. Gaige Musick ran 17 yards to the Lions 3-yard line but an overthrown pass by Adrian Narvaiz on fourth down would give the Lions back possession to close first quarter action.

The defensive battle continued however the White Rattlers would drive to the Lions 20-yard line with 36 seconds until halftime but a Narvaiz fumble would leave both teams scoreless at the half.

However, outstanding line play by Will O’Brien was outstanding he bull rushed the Lions the entire evening.

Greg Jasso would reel off a big run but the Rattlers would have to punt. Then the team would pull some trickery with an Aubrey Oswalt fake punt and a facemask penalty would give the Rattlers a first down. The teams would enter the final quarter in a 0-0 tie.

Oswalt would step up again as he blocked a punt at the Waco 35-yard line with 6:23 left in the game. The Rattlers would go for fourth down and fail but the Lions which was held at bay the entire evening would take possession and make the most of it as Lester Walker would race for a 68-yard touchdown for a 6-0 lead, the two-point conversion was no good.

Two more San Marcos interceptions would spell a 6-0 defeat but overall the team played great defense and special teams. This team will continue to show improvements. White Rattlers Head Coach Michael Perez said, “We played with good effort, we just lost with one play.”
