Transportation Deputy critically injured and in intensive care after bicycle collision

Hays County Sheriff’s Office Transportation Deputy Fernando Amaya was critically injured in an auto bicycle collision on Monday, August 25, 2008, at around 7am while on his way to work. He is at Brackenridge Hospital in Intensive Care and his condition remains critical as of Thursday at 2pm. His wife and two children, ages 11 and 13, and other family members and friends are close at his side as he fights for his life.

Medical bills will soon begin to pile up for the Amaya family and an account to help defray costs has been set up at American National Bank in San Marcos. The account is in the name of Beatriz Amaya for Fernando Amaya. Donations can be made in person or by mailing donations to American National Bank-San Marcos, 2202 Hunter Road, San Marcos, Tx. 78666.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is also working with The Blood Center of Central Texas to set up a date and time for a blood drive to benefit Deputy Amaya. The date and time will be announced at a later date but the event will occur at the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 1307 Uhland Road in San Marcos.
