Motorcycle Units on Display

The new San Marcos Police Department Motorcycle Unit will be on display in the north City Hall parking lot (Walgreens side) from 5 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to stop by and visit with officers and see the cycles that will enhance the City’s traffic enforcement efforts.

Hearings on 2009 Budget and Tax Rate

The City Council will hold public hearings on the proposed $145.3 million 2009 City budget and on the property tax rate of $0.5302. The public is invited to offer written or oral comments at the hearings. Copies of the proposed budget are available for review at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins and the Public Library, 625 E. Hopkins, during business hours and on line at 2009_Budget.html .

Compensation/ Classification Study

Carolyn Linér, Director of the Human Resources Department, will present the preliminary results of a compensation and classification study at a 6 p.m. City Council workshop. The scope of the study included preparing job descriptions that are compliant with employment laws, conducting a market pay study which compared the City of San Marcos’ salaries and classifications with those of similar Texas cities as well as local entities, and designing a classification system to meet current and future needs.

Wonder World Drive Extension Contract

During the 7 p.m. regular meeting, the City Council will consider awarding the construction contract for the Wonder World Drive extension that will be built from Hunter Road to Ranch Road 12 following a competitive bidding process. The parkway is a joint project of the City of San Marcos and the Texas Department of Transportation, funded through local funds, a $10 million federal allocation, and pass-through toll financing from TxDOT. A ground breaking ceremony will be held September 2, 2008.

Towing Practices

The City Council will hold a discussion on towing practices, non-consent tows, fees and the rotation system for wrecker companies in San Marcos. Police Chief Howard Williams will make a presentation about current towing issues.
