Texas State Strutters advance to Los Angeles on NBC’s America’s Got Talent

Thursday night the Texas State Strutters saw success once again as they advanced through NBC’s America’s Got Talent Las Vegas Callbacks and onto semi-final competition in Los Angeles. With the progression, the world-renowned dance team will now perform weekly on live television where the American viewing audience will have a chance to vote for their favorite acts. The reality series will conclude with a live finale where the winning performance will be awarded a one million-dollar prize.

Unlike the previous two seasons of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, season three contests advance weekly by judges and audience votes. Votes can be cast online on the America’s Got Talent web-site.

NBC’s America’s Got Talent is a weekly reality show that features singers, dancers, comedians, contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, magicians and ventriloquists all performing for audience and judges votes to move on to the next round. Jerry Springer hosts the television series that is presided over by celebrity judges David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne.

The Strutters of Texas State University have long been associated with pageantry and excellence in performance for Texas State intercollegiate athletics. Founded in 1960, the Strutters boast thousands of alumnae, who have helped to make the organization what it is today.

This organization is unique in that it was the FIRST precision dance team formed at a four-year university. For 49 years, Strutters have served as ambassadors for Texas State University on state, national and international levels. The Strutters have proudly carried the name of Texas State with performances in 22 countries spanning four continents.

One of the most impressive honors was their selection as the first U.S. dance team to perform in the People’s Republic of China. Other highlights include: two Presidential Inaugural Parades, numerous NFL & NBA halftime performances, the nationally televised Macy’s Thanksgiving Day ParadeTM, MTV’s Total Request Live, a national television commercial for Coca-Cola and five movie appearances.

Aside from excellence in dance, the organization takes pride in helping young women develop communication skills, character and confidence. While hosting annual camps and competitions, Strutters serve as exemplary role models to thousands of high school dance team members across Texas and in Hawaii.
