A+ education foundation announces nine SMCISD teacher grant recipients

Kerry Parker, President of A+ Education Foundation, recently announced the 42 Central Texas winners of the Foundation’s 2008 Educator Grant Program with grants totaling almost $40,000, and San Marcos CISD accounted for nine of those winners. The local recipients were: o Susan M. Seaton of Crockett Elementary School

o Viki T. Hicks of Crockett Elementary School
o Arlene S. Hooper of Hernandez Intermediate School
o Sylvia S. Benavides of Hernandez Intermediate School
o Jessica E. Meyer of San Marcos High School
o Donald G. Davis of San Marcos High School
o Kathleen A. Murkot of San Marcos High School
o Julia A. Villarreal of San Marcos High School
o Shannon L. Franks of Travis Elementary School

The funds will help recipients cover the cost of programs and training to improve the classroom experience for their students. This year’s winning submissions included eclectic projects such as dyslexia support in the classroom, recycling clubs, and iPod tutorials.

Parker said, “We are delighted that educators continue to rely on our grant program to fund innovative training and programs in the classroom which might not otherwise come to fruition. A+ Federal Credit Union remains committed to giving back to the educational community through the Foundation and to our goal of increasing the number of grants awarded in the future.”

This year also marked the inaugural year of the Foundation’s Honorary Grant Program in which grants were awarded in a name designated by contributors in the amount of $1,000.

The A+ Education Foundation was established and developed by A+ Federal Credit Union in 2005 to provide grants to full-time PreK-12 educators in reaching their educational goals. Since its inception, the Foundation has given over $121,000 in grants.
