The San Marcos Performing Arts Association in cooperation with San Marcos High School opened with an outstanding performance of Lionel Bart’s musical Oliver in the new San Marcos High School Performing Arts Center this evening. San Marcos is blessed to have such a dedicated group of on stage participants and off stage volunteers to give us high quality local cultural entertainment. Following Mozart’s Magic Flute, this performance of Oliver showcased for the second time the state-of-the-art performing arts center at our new San Marcos High School.
The cast, an energetic blend of young and not-so-young, made set changes in character and to the tempo of orchestral accompaniment. Rick Bowen’s performance as Fagin, Sydni Kipp as Nancy, Ben Mayne as The Artful Dodger, Abby Bowers as Oliver, Brandon Morales as the despicable Bill Sykes combined with a menagerie of street urchins and pocket filled Londoners to make you feel as if you were in the East End Paddington Green area of London.
With excellent direction, choreography, set and costume design, orchestra direction and musical coordination, acting, lighting, make up, stage management and production crews and even hospitality, ticket sales and stage mothers, this show offers it all “right here in river city.” For San Marcos the Music Man must be on the upcoming list of productions.
This is just a beginning and what a beginning it is. With our community’s support, expressed through your attendance, we will continue to enjoy such wonderful performances. I urge each of you to take time this weekend to enjoy a truly cultural experience right here in San Marcos.
Tickets are purchased at the door prior to the show for $15.00 each. Saturday’s performances are a matinee at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m.
Don’t miss this !!!
